The Shinkansen interior was spotless, and the relatively empty seats had luxurious adjustable red pillows!

We stopped by Omicho Market on our way to the hotel from the station. Before lunch, we visited a sashimi restaurant near the entrance for a quick snack!
There were many foreign visitors, and there were staff members who spoke English.
At this place you can enjoy not only seafood from the Hokuriku region, but also fresh vegetables!

We chose this place for lunch

The restaurant we visited for lunch is Hirudokoro Takasaki. This restaurant is part of a group of several stores and offers set meals.
We chose the Hirudokoro set. The specialty crab cream croquette and the specially selected crisp salmon roe were the highlights.
This is a restaurant where you can eat fresh seasonal seafood for a great price.

When in Kanazawa, you need to go to a Japanese cafe

Kissa & Co. is a Japanese cafe located right near the hotel. It is a stylish Japanese-modern cafe with power outlets and was very comfortable.
There are many attractive teas and matcha on the menu, so you may have a hard time choosing.
This time, I chose a set with high-grade fresh sweets! The seasonal hydrangea fresh sweets are refreshing even just to look at and are a nice match with Japanese tea!
Please come and take a break here after returning from the hotel.

Kanazawa is also famous for oden

For dinner, we chose Kanazawa oden! We went to Amatsubo, which is located right at the entrance to Omicho Market.
We visited this place because it is easily accessible, about a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and because we wanted to try Kanazawa oden.
The broth is made only from bonito, kelp, and sake and is excellent! We were also impressed by the size of the clams and the tenderness of the octopus. If you would like to try Kanazawa oden, please visit this restaurant.

Night cafes on a night stroll

Night cafes in Kanazawa are very rare! The famous chains are nice, but we decided to visit a local coffee shop.
After filling up on oden, we took a walk to Nazoya Coffee Shop.
It seems there is also a mystery escape-room attraction attached to the cafe. This time I had a simple maple nut latte. There were also many other carefully selected coffee beans on display.

Explore in the morning and go cafe hopping

After checking out in the morning, on the way to the station, we went to 6 Apartment Coffee, which is about an 8-minute walk from Kanazawa Station. The modern exposed concrete structure was stylish and very comfortable.
There are seats downstairs as well, designed like a hidden retreat. It also has a night cafe, so it’s recommended for those whose hotel is nearby.
Here, I chose a rare spice cafe. I enjoyed this delicious coffee in the morning and then took the Shinkansen. It was a perfect coffee shop to wrap up Kanazawa.

After leaving our luggage at the hotel, we went sightseeing in the area. The first place we went to was Ishiura Shrine. It is said to bring good luck in finding a partner. The place where you tie your fortune slips is a beautiful purple, making it a spectacular passageway, so it looks great for photos! In summer there is also a Chinowa-Kuguri (grass ring purification ritual), and it’s near Kenrokuen Garden, so please visit before heading to Kenrokuen.

In Kanazawa, this is the place to be

Aumo Editorial Department

Kenrokuen is an essential part of sightseeing in Kanazawa. You can see the oldest waterworks and fountains in Japan. A passer-by also pointed out to us the Japanese Hawk-owl, which comes from Southeast Asia once a year.
Kenrokuen is mainly visited in winter, but it is a Japanese garden where you can enjoy various scenery depending on the season. If you visit between March and June, and happen to spot a Japanese Hawk-owl, it is said that you will be very lucky, so be sure to look for it.

A mysterious shrine with a mix of Japanese and Western styles

Aumo Editorial Department

On the way back from Kenrokuen, we found a mysterious structure that turned out to be Oyama Shrine upon closer inspection. Google Maps says it closes at 5pm, but you can still visit for worship.
Here too, you can go through the chinowa (grass ring) and get purified. This stained glass area is off-limits, so we couldn’t enter, but it’s still enjoyable just to look at it from the outside. The view when you look back from the main hall was also spectacular.
