If you’re craving Gyukatsu in Osaka, Kyoto Katsugyu is the place to go! Enjoy the finest Japanese Black Beef

For those of you planning a trip to Japan, sushi and ramen alone aren’t enough to truly experience Japanese cuisine! Japan has many more unique and delicious dishes, one of which is Gyukatsu. This time, we will introduce the popular Gyukatsu restaurant “Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu Umeda” and its signature dish “Kuroge Wagyu Premium Sirloin Cutlet Zen.” In this article, we will provide detailed information on the appeal of the dish, store information, and tips for visiting!

Try Gyukatsu at Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu in Osaka

Umeda is the heart of Osaka and a convenient area for sightseeing and shopping. Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu Umeda is easily accessible, just a few minutes’ walk from both JR Osaka Station and Umeda Station. The large sign serves as a landmark, making it easy to find—we arrived without any trouble!

The interior of the restaurant has a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Although we visited during the peak lunchtime hours, the staff were efficient, and we were seated immediately.

Looking at the menu, there were a number of delicious looking Gyukatsu set meals. This time, I chose the “Japanese Black Beef Premium Sirloin Cutlet Set” that I had been looking forward to.

The moment the food arrived, I was impressed. The cutlet on the plate had a beautiful golden color, accompanied by a set of cabbage, miso soup, and rice, creating a perfectly balanced meal.

I was hooked on the Kyoto Katsugyu Gyukatsu from the first bite

First, I took a bite without any toppings. As I bit into the crispy batter, the rich flavor of the Japanese Black Beef burst out! The outside was crispy, while the inside remained rare, showcasing the meat’s incredible tenderness. This contrast was simply irresistible!

Enjoy enhancing the flavor with various toppings

This is the highlight of Kyoto Katsugyu’s Gyukatsu experience. Let’s enjoy enhancing the flavor with different arrangements. First, I tried adding a little Japanese pepper salt and wasabi from the condiments on the tray.

The refreshing spiciness of the wasabi further enhances the flavor of the Japanese Black Beef. Eating it with just the Sansho salt allowed me to fully appreciate the natural taste of the meat, making me realize just how delicious Kuroge Wagyu truly is.

You can also enjoy a refreshing taste by pairing it with grated daikon radish or a richer, milder taste by dipping it in a soft-boiled egg. This allows you to savor every single slice without ever getting bored.

Adding ground sesame seeds from the table will give it a deep flavor, and adding shichimi pepper will add a spicy accent.

Incidentally, the cabbage, which is the perfect companion to Gyukatsu, should be topped with the dressing provided on the table. At first, I thought all dressings were the same, but this one was so delicious that I found myself wanting more and more cabbage.

Adjusting the doneness with a small grill

Another enjoyable aspect is using the small grill on the table. The Gyukatsu is served rare, but you can grill it to your preferred doneness right at your seat.

Rare is delicious on its own, but by lightlysearing the surface enhances the aroma while maintaining its tenderness, creating a perfect balance.

Another highlight of Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu is the ability to customize the doneness to your preference.

A wide variety of side dishes

If you’ve traveled all the way to Japan, we want you to experience Japanese cuisine to the fullest! One of the standout side dishes is the red miso soup. Unlike the miso used in regular miso soup, red miso has a richer, more robust flavor.

Typically found in authentic Japanese restaurants and kappo establishments, red miso soup is rarely offered at chain restaurants. However, at Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu, it is included as part of the set meal.

Gochisousama deshita! (Thank you for the meal!) Payment is mostly cashless, allowing you to use various credit cards and QR payments in addition to cash. While some restaurants in Japan are cash-only, Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu accepts cashless payments, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free checkout process.
